For Life
2009.11.02 (Review of 2000.09.14 edition)

Hello! It's good to have you back!

Tomorrow is Culture Day, a holiday that conjures up images of kabuki theater, tea ceremonies, and celebrated traditional craftsmen. But in terms of sheer popularity, there's no denying that POP culture is king (“pop” stands forpopular”, after all!). And among all the pop culture offerings, there is one that stirs the imagination like no other: the movies! Yes, the WordMaster is back in his favorite theater with eyes glued to the big screen. This week, he and you are sure to be entertained!

Today's LessonCATEGORY: 間違いやすいボキャブラリー
TWO-HOUR MOVIE   2時間の映画

Explanation

  • We often link a number and a singular (= not plural) noun together with a hyphen (= “-”) to make an adjective. For example, if a movie is two hours long, then it's a two-hour movie.

Be Careful! We do NOT say “two-hours” (with an “s”) movie.
  • 数字と名詞の(複数形ではなく)単数形をハイフン(-)でつないで、形容詞を作ることがよくあります。例えば、2時間の映画のことを、two-hour movie と言います。

    注意: s を付けた two-hours movie という言い方はしません。
