HANG OUT TO DRY   外に干す

Explanation

  • To hang wet clothes, towels, bed sheets, etc. out to dry is to put them outside on hangers, a horizontal (= parallel to the ground) pole or rope, etc. so that the sun and air can make them dry.
  • hang out to dry は、ぬれた服、タオル、シーツなどが、日光と風で乾くように、ハンガーや物干し竿、洗濯ひもなどに掛けて屋外に干す、という意味です。

  1. Don't put those clothes in the dryer. Just hang them out to dry.
  2. If you hang that shirt out in the sun to dry, the colors will fade. You'd better put it in the shade.
