A “couch potato” is a creature whose favorite habitat is a comfortable sofa with an unobstructed view of the television. Today we talk about a little device that has played a large role in encouraging the spread of this sedentary species!
REMOTE CONTROL リモコン
- A remote control is a small piece of equipment that you hold in your hand and use to adjust (for example, turn on/off, turn up/down, or change the channel on) another piece of equipment (such as a TV or stereo) that is not attached to it.
Be Careful! The shortened form of remote control is remote, NOT “remocon” like the Japanese
- (on the phone with her husband)
Can you pick up some batteries for the remote control? It takes four AAA (pronounced “triple A”) batteries. - I don't know what half the buttons on this remote control are for.
- I can't find the remote. Do you have it?
- Give me the remote. I want to see what else is on (= on TV).
We'll be back here on this same channel tomorrow. So don't touch that dial ... or that remote control!
