For Life

Hello, and welcome to the Friday WordMaster, where we serve our English piping hot! What's today's special? Well, we'll have you know it's a sizzler!

Today's LessonCATEGORY: ジャパニーズイングリッシュ

  • A frying pan or skillet is a flat, shallow, usually metal container with a long handle used for frying food on a stove.

Be Careful! The expression “fry pan”, like the Japanese フライパン, is less common than frying pan.

  1. (part of a recipe)
Saute the chicken breasts in a large frying pan until golden brown, add the cream and white wine, cover and cook over low heat for ten minutes.
  2. You'd better let the frying pan soak in water for a little while, otherwise it's going to be hard to clean.
  3. (to a salesperson in a department store)
I'm looking for a really good non-stick skillet.
  4. My mother always said there's nothing better for cooking pancakes than a cast-iron skillet.
