Wow, what a day! Not only is it the start of December - a month filled with holidays, parties, and gift-giving - but today is also the first day of the Asian Games! Will you be watching?

From now until the end of the Games, we'll be introducing you to an important set of expressions. We hope you'll use them to talk with your friends and co-workers about this exciting event!

Explanation

  • The Olympics or the Olympic Games are international sports events (one for summer sports, the other for winter sports) that happen once every four years.

    The Asian Games is an international sports event similar to the Olympics, but in which only Asian countries compete.

    Be Careful! The expression the Olympics is frequently used both as a plural AND singular noun. The expressions the Olympic Games and the Asian Games, however, are most commonly used as plural nouns.
  • the Olympics または the Olympic Games とは、国際的なスポーツ競技会、オリンピック(夏のスポーツのための大会と冬のスポーツのためのものがあります)のことで、これは、4年に1回開催されます。
