SALT / SODIUM   塩、塩を加える/ナトリウム

Explanation

  • Salt (noun) is a solid, white substance added to food to make it taste better or to keep it from going bad.

To salt (verb) food is to add salt to it.

If food is salty (adjective), it tastes of salt.

Sodium (chemical symbol: “Na”) is the substance in salt that can cause high blood pressure in some people.

Be Careful! “Natrium” (like the Japanese ナトリウム) is a technical word for sodium and is NOT used in ordinary conversation.
