Greetings!

Of all the ways computers have made our lives easier, perhaps we should be most grateful for how simple they've made it to manage and make sense of large masses of data. After all, imagine what the job of an accountant for an international corporation would be like if all the number crunching had to be done by hand!

This week we look at data, what we do with it, and how computers have helped us manage it more efficiently. Enjoy!

Explanation

  • A record is a written piece of information (about something that happened or was said) that is kept in case the information is needed in the future.
  • record とは、将来必要になったときのために保管しておく、出来事や発言に関する文字情報のことです。

  1. (customer service agent to customer)
    According to our records, your order was sent on the 10th of this month.
  2. (customer service agent to less fortunate customer)
    I'm sorry, but we have no record of your order.
  3. (notice from business trying to sell extended warranty)
    Our records show that the warranty on your car is due to expire soon.
  4. Although current records are stored electronically, we still have paper records from our first twenty years in business.
  5. (hospital physician)
    I've looked at the patient's medical records, and he has no history of heart disease.
