GIVE UP   やめる、あきらめる


  • To give up is to stop trying to do something because it's too difficult.

    To give up a habit or regular activity is to stop doing it, using it, eating/drinking it, etc.
  • give up は、困難なので、何かをしようと(努力)するのをやめる、という意味です。

    習慣や定期的な活動について give up というと、それをすることや使うこと、食べたり飲んだりすることなどをやめる、という意味になります。



  1. (customer to aggressive sales rep)
    You don't give up easily, do you?
  2. I refuse to give up. I'm going to follow through with this project if it kills me.
  3. (manager talking about difficult employee)
    I've given up trying to enforce the dress code with him. As long as he dresses neatly, he can wear what he wants from now on.
  4. My doctor has told me to give up alcohol and cigarettes.
  5. She made it clear that Ron would either have to accept the transfer or give up his job.
