What better way to end this week's series than with these two workhorses of business English?
GROSS / NET 総計の、総収益をあげる/純益の、純益をあげる
- A gross (adjective) amount of money - for example, income or sales - is the total amount BEFORE taxes and expenses are taken away.
To gross (verb) an amount of money is to earn that gross amount.
A net (adjective) amount of money is the amount AFTER taxes and expenses are taken away.
To net (verb) an amount of money is to earn that net amount. - gross (形容詞)とは、収入や売上げなどの、税金や経費を差し引く前の総額、つまり、総計の、という意味です。
gross (動詞)は、総収益をあげる、という意味になります。
net (形容詞)とは、税金や経費を差し引いた後の金額、つまり、純益の、という意味です。
net (動詞)は、純益をあげる、という意味になります。
- Gross sales topped $2,000,000 for the first time in the store's history.
- I gross just over $100,000 a year, but my net income after taxes is only around $65,000.
- Berlitz Aviation posted a net profit of $71 million for the first half of the year.
- We purchased the property for $800,000, then sold it two weeks later for just short of a million, netting nearly $200,000 in the deal.
