2010.04.12(Review of 2006.08.29 edition)

Hello again! We hope the sun is shining where you are and that life has been easy and kind on you and those you love.

This week, the WordMaster would like to introduce you to some of his good friends in the business world. Even if you've never been good with names, we think this is a group of people and businesses you won't soon forget!

Today's Lesson

  • To supervise is to watch and direct an employee or task to make sure that things are done the way they're supposed to be.

A supervisor is someone who has such a job.
  • supervise とは、物事が適切に行われるように、従業員や業務を監視する、指導する、という意味です。

    supervisor とは、従業員や業務を監視、指導する仕事を受け持つ人、つまり、監督者、上司のことです。

  1. I've asked Hank to supervise the move to our new offices. With him in charge, I feel confident that things will run smoothly.
  2. As foreman, you'll be responsible for supervising 14 assembly line workers and ensuring that work is conducted safely and efficiently.
  3. I've asked my supervisor for a few days' leave next month.
  4. Normally I can't give you a refund without a receipt, but let me speak with my supervisor. Perhaps we can make an exception in this case.
