-  To screw up is to make a mistake, do something badly, or ruin something.
 
 A screw-up is a mistake.
 
 Be Careful! These expressions can sound rude (= not polite) when used to talk about other people's actions.
- screw up とは、間違いをする、何かをするのが下手である、何かをだめにする、という意味です。
 
 名詞形は screw-up で、失敗のことです。
 
 注意:他の人の行為についてこれらの表現を使うと、失礼に聞こえることがあります。

- (coach to player)
 I'm giving you one more chance. If you screw up again, you're off the team.
- (two co-workers) 
 a: They want me to give the presentation next week.
 b: Really? Congratulations!
 a: Thanks. I just hope I don't screw it up.
- BOSS: Your mistake has cost this company thousands of dollars!
 WORKER: I'm so sorry. I really screwed up, didn't I?
- a: I thought you sent the package last week.
 b: I did, but there was a screw-up with the address. They delivered it to Washington State instead of Washington, D.C.
- (supervisor to employee)
 Another screw-up like that and you'll be out of a job (= you'll be fired)!
