TIE (game)   同点引き分け(試合)

Explanation

  • When a game, match, or other competition is not yet over and both players or teams have the same score, we say that the SCORE or GAME, MATCH, etc. “is tied” or the PLAYERS, TEAMS, etc. “are tied”.

    When both players or teams have the same score at the END of a competition, we say that the GAME, MATCH, etc. “was a tie” or it “ended in a tie” or the PLAYERS, TEAMS, etc. tied.
  • ゲーム(遊び)や試合など競技中に、選手やチームの得点が同点のとき、The score/game/match is tied. または、The players/teams are tied. と言います。

    選手やチームの得点が同点のまま競技が終了した場合は、The game/match was a tie. または、The game/match ended in a tie. あるいは、The players/teams tied. と言います。

examples

  1. The score was tied at the end of overtime, so the game was decided by a penalty kick shootout.
  2. The teams were tied 5 to 5 in the ninth inning, when the Berlitz Bengal's star batter hit a homerun to win the game.
  3. a: What's the score?
    b: The game is tied at 26. (= the score is 26 to 26)
  4. Although the game was a tie, we felt that we had played much better than the other team.
  5. a: Did you win your match on Tuesday?
    b: No. It ended in a tie.
  6. The two athletes tied for third place, and both were given bronze medals.
