2011.04.01 (Review of 2008.11.21 edition)

Today's Lesson
SOCIALIZE   打ち解けて付き合う、仲良く交際する

  • To socialize with someone, such as friends or co-workers, is to spend time with them for pleasure.
  • socialize とは、友人や同僚などと楽しむために一緒に過ごす、つまり、打ち解けて付き合う、という意味です。

  1. I was so busy socializing in college that I had very little time to study, but I don't regret a moment of it!
  2. (supervisor to employees chatting at the coffee machine)
Let's spend a little less time socializing and more time getting work done, shall we?
  3. I really miss the camaraderie at my old office. We all used to socialize after work together almost every night.
  4. I heard that sales reps in Japan are often expected to socialize with clients until late at night. Is that really true?
