Have you ever watched as one of those giant container ships was being loaded with it's impossible burden of freight, or as an oil tanker received its million-barrel cargo? Such gargantuan vessels are fitting symbols of the vast scale of the global economy. And Japan, to a degree found in few other countries, has staked its wealth and security on this global exchange of goods. So let's begin a week of transnational commerce by introducing you to the word that sums it all up!

  • To trade (verb) is to buy and sell goods and services.

    The noun form is also trade.
  • 動詞の trade とは、商品やサービスを売買する、つまり、取引する、という意味です。

    名詞形も同じく trade で、取引のことです。



  1. We've been trading with China since 1982. They're our largest market.
  2. Our firm trades in fine jewels and precious metals.
  3. I'd like to work for one of the large trading companies after I graduate.
  4. The importance of foreign trade to countries like Japan and the United States cannot be overstated.
  5. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) eliminated many of the trade restrictions between Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
