of 2001.12.14 edition)
You may not be familiar with today's song, but it's a fun one. It's about a little boy who's recently lost two front teeth, so that when he tries to say “Merry Christmas”, it sounds more like “Merry CHRITH-MITH”. Perhaps we could all take a lesson from this boy and keep our Christmas wishes small and practical!
ALL 唯一のこと
- “All I Want for Christmas (is My Two Front Teeth)”by Donald Yetter Gardner
When all is used in expressions such as “all I want for Christmas” or “all we did”, it means “the only thing”. - all は、all I want for Christmas や all we did のように使われる場合、唯一のこと、という意味になります。
- a: Aren't you ready yet? We're going to be late.
b: All I need to do is put on some lipstick, then we can leave. - All you do these days is watch TV and sleep. You need to get a life!
- We were out whale-watching for seven hours, but all we saw were seagulls and a couple of hungry seals.
- a: How did Andy's interview go?
b: I'm not sure. All I know is that he looked a little blue when he got home. - You don't have to get me anything for Christmas this year. All I ask is that you promise to have dinner with me on Christmas Eve, okay?
Enjoy the day!
