Hello again, on this eve of the spring equinox!

It's always good to have a few variations on a favorite theme, to better suit each occasion. Although “It's nice to meet you!” usually works well enough, there are times when a more formal, polite tone will make a better first impression. For such times, here are a couple of our favorites!

Explanation

  • It's a pleasure to meet you is a polite way to greet someone you are meeting for the first time. It means “I am happy to meet you.”

    If you are meeting an important person whom you greatly respect, you can say It's an honor to meet you.
  • 初対面の人に丁寧に挨拶するときは、It's a pleasure to meet you. と言います。これは、相手に会えて嬉しい、という意味です。

    敬意を表すべき重要な人物に会ったときは、It's an honor to meet you. と言います。これは、相手に会えることを光栄に思う、という意味です。
