Hello, and welcome back for a brand new week of Berlitz WordMaster@Work! We're awfully glad to have you with us.

Have you ever been at a loss for the right word to describe a person? For example, you begin with great enthusiasm: “I REALLY like my new boss!” but then, “He's so ... so ... well, you know!” Well, it's likely they DON'T know. So this week we'll give you some words to help you finish what you start. Enjoy!

Today's Lesson

  • An impression is the way a person, place, etc. looks or seems to you.

If, for example, you “get a good impression” OF someone, then you think well of them because of the way they look or seem to you.

If you “make a good impression” ON someone, then they think well of you because of the way you look or seem to them.

  1. I didn't get a very good impression of the new employee. He spent the whole time talking about himself.
  2. a: Why did John arrive so early this morning?
b: He wanted to make a good impression on the new boss.
  3. Always dress professionally when meeting potential clients. It's important to make a good first impression.
