2008.03.10(Review of 2006.05.08 edition)

Hello! It's good to be back!

The start of a new business week usually requires some gearing up from the slower pace of the weekend. If you're having trouble doing that today, no problem. This week is designed to bring you up to speed!

Today's Lesson
URGENT   緊急の

  • Something is urgent if it needs to be done, read, considered, etc. immediately because it is important.
  • urgent とは、何かが重要であるために、すぐにしたり、読んだり、検討したりする必要がある、つまり、緊急の、という意味です。

  1. (leaving a phone message)
Can you have Mr. Johnson call me as soon as he returns? Tell him it's urgent.
  2. a: Hi, Marsha! Can I talk to you for a minute?
b: Is it urgent? I'm rather busy at the moment.
  3. (assistant interrupting a meeting)
I'm sorry to interrupt, but there's an urgent call for you from your wife - some sort of emergency at home.
  4. I don't have time to waste worrying about office politics. I have far more urgent matters to deal with.
  5. (job advertisement)
Berlitz Auto Parts' Jersey City store has an urgent need for experienced sales representatives with a proven track record of success.
