思い通りにいく/思い通りにいかない
- When something (for example, a project or negotiation) is going your way, it is progressing well for you.
If something is going against you, it is progressing badly for you. - go your way とは、(例えば、プロジェクトや交渉などの)物事が、自分にとって都合がよい方向に進んでいる、という意味です。
going against you は、逆に、物事がうまく進まない、思い通りにいかない、という意味になります。
- a: Your business is certainly doing well, isn't it?
b: Yes, everything seems to be going my way these days. - The negotiation is at a delicate stage just now, but I have a feeling it will go our way in the end.
- I don't lose any sleep when the market goes against me; I invest for the long term. The market always recovers eventually.
- I don't know what he'll do if the court decision goes against him. It's his last hope.
