Greetings!

Sharing the spotlight this week are 5-year-old boys, and girls aged 3 and 7. But our thoughts go out to children of all ages, as well as to their parents who keep them happy and healthy.

Among a parent's greatest allies is the family doctor, and so we've taken the liberty of making another full week of appointments with the WordMaster's personal physician. We assure you, you'll be in good hands!

WEIGH / MEASURE (your) HEIGHT
体重・重さを量る/身長・高さを測る

Explanation

  • To weigh someone or something is to find out how heavy the person or thing is by using a scale or similar device.

If you find out that someone or something is, for example, 65 kilograms, you can say that the person or thing weighs 65 kilograms.

Be Careful! We usually do NOT use the expression “weigh MY BODY”. Rather, we say “weigh MYSELF”.

To measure someone's height or to measure the height of something is to find out how tall the person is or how high the thing is by using a tape measure, ruler, etc.
  • weigh とは、体重計などの装置を使って、人や物にどのくらいの重さがあるかを調べる、という意味です。

ある人や物が65キロである場合は、the person or thing weighs 65 kilograms と言います。

    注意:英語では、weigh MY BODY とは言わず、weigh MYSELF と言います。

measure someone's height または measure the height of something とは、巻尺や定規などを使って、人の身長や物の高さを測定する、という意味です。
