Greetings!
Feeling fit after the long Health and Sports Day weekend? Ready for the strenuous work of building a bigger English vocabulary? Then let's get building, by talking about ... buildings!
FLOOR vs. STORY 階 vs. 階層
- We use the word floor to talk about a particular level of a building; for example, “the third floor”.
We use the word story to talk about the height of a building; for example, “a ten-story building”. - floor は、建物の特定の階について話すときに使います。例えば、3階であれば、the third floor と言います。
story は、建物の高さについて話すときに使います。例えば、10階建ての建物であれば、a ten-story building と言います。
- (customer at department store information counter)
a: What floor is the toy department on?
b: It's on the 6th floor. - The top three floors of that building are luxury apartments.
- I live on the second floor of a five-story apartment building.
- Yokohama's Landmark Tower is the tallest building in Japan. It's 70 stories.
We'll be erecting another towering WordMaster edition for you tomorrow. We hope you'll be there for the groundbreaking!
