Explanation

  • The last minute is the last chance to do something before it's too late.

    To “leave something to the last minute” is to wait until the last minute to do something.
  • the last minute は、何かをするのに間に合うぎりぎりの時間のことです。

    leave something to the last minute と言うと、何かをするのを最後の最後まで待つ、という意味になります。

examples

  1. We didn't start calling airlines until the last minute, and by that time all the flights were full.
  2. I always wait until the last minute to write my New Year's cards. This year I'm going to start earlier.
  3. (talking about bungee jumping)
    I thought I could do it, but I got frightened at the last minute.
  4. You shouldn't leave important jobs to the last minute.
