NOTE vs. NOTEBOOK メモ vs. ノート
- A note is a short piece of writing.
A notebook is a book of blank or lined paper that is used for writing.
Be Careful! We do NOT use the word “note” like the Japanese ノート to mean notebook. - note は、メモ、覚え書きのことです。
notebook は、白紙あるいは罫の入った紙を製本したもの、つまりノート、帳面のことです。
注意:note には日本語で言う「ノート」のように notebook の意味はありません。
- My mother put a note in my lunchbox today. It said, “Good luck on your test!”
- (on the phone)
a: Is Mr. Simpson in?
b: No, he is out all day. Would you like me to leave him a note for you? - Instead of writing letters when I travel, I usually just write a quick note on the back of a postcard.
- At the beginning of the school year, I buy a new notebook for each of my classes.
- My diary is just a simple notebook I bought at the 100 yen shop. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a good one.
We wish you a glorious weekend!
