Things have gotten even worse since we last checked in on our unfortunate couple. They've decided that the best thing to do is to spend some time apart for a while. In fact, the moving van is right outside.

SEPARATE 別居する
- When a husband and wife separate, they stop living with each other.
Be careful:
Even if a husband and wife have separated, they are still legally married. - separate は、夫婦が一緒に住むのをやめる、つまり、別居する、という意味です。
注意:
separated の状態になっても、法的には夫婦のままです。

- FRIEND: How are things going between you and Tom?
TOM'S WIFE: Not very good. We've decided to separate for a while. - My parents separated when I was just a baby.
- My husband and I are separated. The children live with me.
- I've been separated from my wife for two years now. I don't think we're ever going to get back together.
Don't worry, we ARE coming back - tomorrow!
