HARDLY ほとんど~ない

HOME>Word Master®>HARDLY ほとんど~ない

Hi! It's great to be back here with you! You'll notice that this week we've got no single continuing theme - just five different WordMasters we hope you'll find interesting and fun.

Here's your Tuesday edition!

Hardly means "almost not at all".

(Be careful: As hardly has a negative meaning, do NOT use it together with a negative word. For example, we say, "I hardly know you," NOT "I don't hardly know you.")

hardly は、ほとんど~ない、という意味です。

注意: hardly は、言葉自体に否定の意味が含まれているので、他の否定語と一緒には使いません。I hardly know you.(あなたのことはほとんど知りません)とは言いますが、I don't hardly know you. とは言いません。

1.I was so tired I could hardly walk.
2.I hardly ever see my friends from college since I started working.
3.There's hardly any money left in our savings. Just a couple hundred dollars.
4.(on the phone with a bad connection)
You're going to have to speak up; I can hardly hear you.
5.a:Will you marry me?
b:Marry you? But I hardly know you!
Take care!
