Explanation

  • Small talk is light conversation about unimportant subjects (for example, the weather) such as takes place at parties and other social occasions or when meeting people for the first time.

    To make small talk is to have such a conversation.
  • small talk とは、パーティーなどの社交の場や、初対面の人に会ったときに交わされるような、ちょっとした話題(例えば天候など)についての軽い会話、つまり、軽いおしゃべりや世間話のことです。

    make small talk と言うと、そのような会話をする、という意味になります。
