Greetings! Here's the fourth in our series of “S” words that describe some less-appealing qualities sometimes found in co-workers, friends, family, and - dare we say it? - even ourselves!

Explanation

  • Someone who is stubborn refuses to change their opinions, the way they do things, etc.
  • stubborn とは、自分の意見や、物事の進め方を変えることを嫌がる、つまり、頑固な、という意味です。

  1. Why do you have to be so stubborn all the time? Can't you do what I ask just this once?
  2. (to a friend, quietly so her husband Jack can't hear)
    I'm sorry we're late. We got lost on the way, and Jack was too stubborn to stop and ask for directions.
  3. She can be a very strong, stubborn woman. Once she makes up her mind, she rarely changes it.
