Hello! Have you ever heard THIS idiom before?
RING A BELL 聞いたことがある、思い当たる
- If something (especially a name) rings a bell, it sounds or looks familiar.
- ring a bell とは、(特に人の名前に)聞き覚えがある、見覚えがあるという意味です。
- a: Do you remember meeting Mr. Kato at the trade show last year?
b: Kato ... The name doesn't ring a bell.
a: Don't you remember? He was the Japanese salesman who spoke English with an Aussie accent?
b: Oh, of course! - a: Guess who I just ran into.
b: Who?
a: Does the name Maximilian ring a bell?
b: You mean Max from high school? Really? How many years has it been? - His face sure rings a bell, but I can't remember where I've seen him before.
