Explanation

  • An engagement is an arrangement to be somewhere at a particular time.
  • engagement は、ある時間にある場所にいるという取り決めのことです。

examples

  1. (an executive assistant to the president)
    Sir, don't forget that you have a speaking engagement at the Berlitz Conference Center tonight.
  2. (a manager to a member of her staff)
    I still have some time before my dinner engagement. Why don't we discuss next week's production schedule?
  3. a: I'd love to meet with you and talk more about the services my company can offer. Are you free this Thursday?
    b: I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have a previous engagement. How about Friday?
  4. Ms. Baxter said that she won't be able to attend due to a prior engagement. She sends her apologies.
