Greetings!
Some things are better kept private. But making some things public can have its advantages!
PUBLIC COMPANY vs. PRIVATE COMPANY
- A public company is a company whose shares can be bought and sold by the general public (for example, on the New York or Tokyo Stock Exchanges).
A private company is a company whose shares are not sold to the general public. Shares in such a company are owned, for example, by the company's founders, their business associates, and/or company management.
- Preparing an IPO (Initial Public Offering) is an essential step to becoming a public company.
- Most start-ups begin as small private companies. The decision to become a public company is usually made after the firm has proven its profitability and growth potential.
- It was one of the richest private companies in the world until it became a publicly traded company a few years ago.
Much success to you today!
