Explanation

  • To be nervous (at a particular time) is to be worried or frightened.

    To be nervous (in general) is to become worried or frightened easily.
  • nervous は、一時的に不安になったり、恐怖を感じたりする、という意味です。

    nervous には、一般的な性質として、すぐに不安になったり、怖がったりする、つまり、神経質な、という意味もあります。

examples

  1. a: Are you nervous about the interview?
    b: Can you tell?
    a: Only because you've been biting your nails for the past hour.
  2. (in a hospital)
    DOCTOR: How are you doing today?
    PATIENT: Well, I'm feeling a little nervous about the operation.
    DOCTOR: Don't worry. You'll be fine.
  3. (to his girlfriend)
    I'm starting to get really nervous about meeting your parents. What if they don't like me?
  4. I'm surprised he's even thinking about joining the police force. He's always been a rather nervous person.
