- To start a car is to cause the engine to begin running.
“The car starts” means that it is possible to start the car. - start a carは、車のエンジンをかける、という意味です。
the car starts は、車のエンジンがかかる、という意味です。
- I couldn't start my car this morning, so I had to take the bus to work.
- It's cold outside today. Why don't you start the van and warm up the engine for a few minutes while I finish getting ready?
