One of the most difficult interview questions to answer is, “What was your greatest accomplishment?” ... and it's particularly difficult if you don't know the meaning of the word “accomplishment”!

Explanation

  • To accomplish something is to do it successfully.

    An accomplishment is something important that has been completed successfully, often after much effort.
  • accomplish は、何かを成し遂げる、という意味です。

    accomplishment は、成し遂げた重要なこと、という意味です。多大な努力を要してする場合が多いです。

examples

  1. SUPERVISOR: Why do you think you deserve a raise?
    EMPLOYEE: Because I was able to accomplish all of my goals for this year.
  2. You've accomplished a great deal since you joined this company.
  3. We've been working on this all day, but I feel like we've accomplished nothing.
  4. Being the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean was quite an accomplishment.
  5. a: What was your greatest accomplishment?
    b: Mastering the English language ... and I owe it all to WordMaster!
