Conventional wisdom may, at first glance, seem to justify combining forces in business. Consider, for example, these pearls of wisdom: “There's strength in numbers.” “Two heads are better than one.” “Vessels large may venture more, but little boats should keep near shore.”

But then there are equally eloquent arguments in favor of going solo: “Two captains sink the ship.” “The bigger they are the harder they fall.” “Two wrongs don't make a right.”

It's comforting to know that sometimes even the wise disagree!

  • When two or more companies merge, they join together to become one company.

    A merger is the act of joining together two or more companies.
  • merge とは、2つ以上の企業が統合されて1つの会社になる、という意味です。

    merger とは、2つ以上の企業を統合すること、つまり、合併という意味です。


  1. IM1 Industries will merge with UR2 Inc. to form WER3 Enterprises.
  2. Who will be the head of the company after the merger, and will they have to lay off any staff?
  3. The company is considering a merger with its biggest rival, which would make it the largest lumber company in the industry.
