Explanation

  • A tangible asset is an item that has value and can be touched; for example, cash, a house, land, or equipment.

    An intangible asset is an item that has value but can NOT be touched; for example, a brand, patent, or a company's reputation.
  • tangible asset は、形があって価値があるものをさします。例えば現金や建物、土地、設備などです。

    intangible asset は、形がなくて価値があるもののことです。商標や特許権、企業の世評などがこれにあたります。

examples

  1. For most private individuals, their most valuable tangible asset is their house.
  2. The company is suffering huge losses, but if we sell off our manufacturing plants and other tangible assets now, we might still walk away with a profit.
  3. It's hard to put a dollar and cents value on intangible assets, such as high employee morale and a reputation for quality. But it's easy to see that they are priceless.
  4. Senior executives need to give more attention to managing their companies' intangible assets.
