For Life

It's nothing more than a short piece of wire, but today's WordMaster keeps the world's mighty business machine neat and organized. And it's sold by the thousands in every office supply store on the planet!

Today's Lesson

  • A paper clip is a short piece of bent wire or plastic used to hold sheets of paper together.

Be Careful! We do NOT usually use the word 'clip' alone like the Japanese クリップ to mean paper clip.
  • paper clip は、折り曲げた小さな針金、またはプラスチック製の道具で、紙を挟むためのもの――つまり、クリップのことです。

    注意:日本語の「クリップ」のように、clip と言っただけでは paper clip の意味にはなりません。

  1. Could you order a box of large paper clips for me?
  2. Make ten copies of this report and fasten the pages together with paper clips.
  3. The travel agent attached her business card to the brochure with a paper clip.
  4. I once saw a man open a lock with just a paper clip!
