- A top is a round toy that is made to turn rapidly on a point.
To spin a top is to make it turn rapidly, usually with a string or your fingers. We also say that a top spins. - top は、とがった先を軸にして回転させて遊ぶ丸いおもちゃ、つまり、こまのことです。
spin a top は、こまを回す、という意味で、紐や指を使って回転をかけるのが普通です。a top spins （こまは回る）という言い方もします。
