Japan, being a land of steep mountainsides and plenty of rain, has experienced many disasters of the kind we talk about today.
- A flood is a disaster in which water covers an area that is usually dry.
A mudslide is an event in which mud falls down a hillside due to heavy rain, often causing damage to buildings and loss of life. - flood は、河川が溢れて普段は乾いている地域が水につかること、つまり洪水のことです。
mudslide は、豪雨により土砂が山腹から滑り落ちる現象、つまり土砂崩れのことです。建物が崩壊したり、死者が出ることがよくあります。

- Heavy rain has caused floods in low-lying areas.
- In some places where floods are common, flood damage is not covered by insurance.
- A small village in Switzerland was destroyed by a mudslide after three days of heavy rain.
- Traffic was stopped for three hours while workers cleared a mudslide from the road.
Until we meet again tomorrow, take care.
