How nice of you to come see us on a Friday! What wonderful plans have you lined up for the weekend?

Today we finish our first week on the serious theme of disasters. We'll take up the theme again on Monday, but for now, here's your Friday edition.

Explanation

  • To evacuate is to leave (or cause others to leave) a building or area because of danger due to a fire, earthquake, etc.
  • evacuate は、火事や地震などによる危険が迫っているとき、建物、またはその場所から離れる(離れさせる)、つまり、避難する(避難させる)という意味です。

examples

  1. The police told everyone to evacuate the building at once. Someone had called in a bomb threat.
  2. Local governments evacuated two coastal cities before the hurricane struck.

We wish you the happiest of weekends!
