Well, well, well. It's April again - the month of new beginnings in Japan: new suits on freshly-graduated young adults, new red- and black-leather backpacks on school children, and high hopes and ambitions everywhere.
We take this opportunity, therefore, to introduce some words and expressions appropriate to this exciting season. Enjoy!
- The first day you or someone else goes to the office to start a new job is the first day at work or the first day at the office.
If a student is starting a new school year or a new school, we can use the expression the first day at school. - 新しい職場に初めて行く日のことを the first day at work または the first day at the office といいます。
学期の初日や、新入生が学校に初めていく日のことを the first day at school といいます。
- a: How was your first day at work ?
b: It wasn't bad. Everyone at the office seems nice. - Susan's a little nervous about her first day at school, but she'll make friends soon enough.
Thanks for coming!
