RIGHT (through) すっかり、完全に、~までずっと

HOME>Word Master®>RIGHT (through) すっかり、完全に、~までずっと

Welcome back from the weekend! With today's WordMaster we begin the last week of August and, for many of you, the last week of summer vacation. We hope you have an unforgettable time.

Just to make sure you haven't forgotten last week's WordMasters, we have one more use of the word right for you. This will complete our five-day special, so why not take a few extra minutes sometime this week to review the other four? Or how about doing it right now?

Right can be used to mean "completely". For example, when we say, "The bullet went right through his leg," we are stressing that it did not stop part way, but went ALL the way through.

right は、すっかり、完全に、~までずっと、という意味でも使われます。例えば、The bullet went right through his leg.(弾は彼の足を貫通した)という文は、弾が足の中に留まったのではなく、突き抜けたということを強調しています。

1.Although the runner was in much pain, he kept going right to the end.
2.The ship sank right to the bottom of the sea and was lost forever.
3.(a mother to her daughter)
You should wear something under that blouse. It's so light you can see right through it.
4.Dan was working with a power saw, it slipped, and he cut one of his fingers right off.
Until we meet again tomorrow, take care!
