Information is news, facts, or other knowledge that is given or received.

Data is a set of information -- especially statistics, individual facts, or observations -- that was gotten through research.

Information is uncountable, and data is usually used as an uncountable noun too, so neither takes an "-s". We can use the phrase "a piece of" to talk about a single fact, etc.
